One of the most asked questions on fishing forums about fishing in Venice Louisiana is “When’s The Best Time To Catch Fish?”
Captain Brandon Keck of Southern Fly Expeditions says “Well, when can you get here?”
Most of the forums state that all year is pretty good for big fish. And the fall and winter months usually have a better chance to pick up some 150 pound plus big game fish. Game & Fish has an outstanding website with lots of data. But, here are some highlights to get you going.
Experts on other websites usually talk about May thru August being the time you’ll get a 40 to 100 pound fish on your line.
Warm months usually bring around Tuna…sorry Charlie! Dolphin is best between May and July with Wahoo around December through March. Grouper will show up best during the months of January through June.
Snapper is the tricky ones since they have a lot of state and federal restrictions on how many, what size and when you can fish for them.
