The first name came by the French and was Fort Conde. Later, the British took possession between 1763 and 1780 and named it Fort Charlotte. In 1780, Spain ruled this region and named it Fort Carlota. Finally, the American’s took it over and renamed it Fort Charlotte in 1813 and later changed it back to the original Fort Conde after the US Government released it for sale.
The original fort started back in 1723, was constructed of brick and stone with cedar wood. That fort, if it existed today would take up about 11 acres of land.
The existing structure you see today is only 1/3 of the original size. This structure is a 4/5 size scale of the old fort. It was opened on July 4th, 1976 to celebrate the United States bicentennial birthday.
How Much Is The Admission Price For Fort Conde?
The cost to enter the fort and experience all the Fort has to offer is $8 for ages 13 and up. All seniors, military and educators pay $7.50 and children between the ages of 3 and 12 get in for $5.

Bring the children or your school field trip and experience the Colonial Escape Room of Shooting Gallery. Take your picture in the Colonial Photo Room, roam through the fort and armory on the Self-Guided Tour and visit the gift shop for items to remember your visit. Museum artifacts are throughout the exhibit. You can pick up your Map Of Colonial Mobile at the Trading Post.

What Is Fort Conde Hours Of Operation?
Come and visit the Fort all year long, Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 4pm. They may be closed for special events, so contact them ahead of time to make sure they are open. Online ticket are not available at this time.

There is free parking across The Fort at the Mardi Gras Park. Parking meters are close by around The Fort. Major hotels are located all around The Fort and within walking distance.

They are associated with Gulf Coast Ducks, the amphibious boat tour of Downtown Mobile and Mobile Bay and will be focusing their efforts on the re-launch of that touring business.

Caleb B says “This is a good place to visit if you are a history buff and happen to be visiting Mobile. It won’t take an hour to visit, but you’ll get an easy history lesson about Mobile. There isn’t anything from the original fort here. It is completely reconstructed.”
