Just off the Southwest corner of Bienville Square in downtown Mobile, Alabama, sits a small little shop that has been a local favorite since 1947.
And the locals are not the only ones that rave about this little ‘peanut’ of a shop.
Originally a Planter’s corporation establishment, a former employee purchased the location and has been dishing out roasted peanuts and various treats over the years.
I know the resident squirrels of Bienville Square appreciate the many meals that patrons of The A & M Peanut Shop have given them.
As you walk down Dauphin Street either to one of your local watering hole bars or outstanding restaurants, you can smell the fresh roasted peanuts cooking up in the 90 year old, belt driven roaster.
As you walk into the shop, you will notice that they have a wide array of candies and treats other than just roasted peanuts.
White chocolate covered pecans, roasted pumpkin seeds, wasabi peas, coconut macaroons and many chocolate treats await you to choose your selection.
Cashews, pecans, candy peanuts and hot mama pickles are surrounded by old souvenirs and newspaper clippings from times past.
…it takes you back to your youth.
You can even find some peanut clusters, Cajun peanuts and dried fruits to round out the treats available to tantalize your taste buds.
So, if you are in Mobile or coming on a visit, go by 209 Dauphin Street and get a little piece of nostalgia and take care of that sweet tooth.

- Friday and Saturday 9am to 9pm.
