I love traveling around the Gulf Coast and especially Florida’s West coast. Here is a find that is worth the trip from anywhere in the states.
There are over 43 things to do in Cedar Key Florida that you and your family can enjoy. From world class dining to fantastic fishing and water excursions. It also has a private air field for those aviation enthusiasts that want to fly in for a day or two.
This key area is home to the Cedar Key National Wildlife Refuge and many surrounding keys or islands. Many are just a paddle away if you are keen on paddle boards or canoes. Check Out Gulf Coast’s post on what interesting things and places to go in Cedar Key, FL.
Cedar Key Museum State Park
This museum is the home of the historic Whitman home with an expansive collection of local seashells and native American artifacts.
This is a Florida State Park and is open Thursday thru Monday from 10am to 5pm. The museum is closed on Christmas Day. They charge $2 per person and kids ages 5 and younger are free to enter. That’s a good deal.
Visitors can experience hiking trails and enjoy bird watching and wildlife views. Walking and running trails are present including a launch point for paddle boarding. You can also reserve the ground for weddings.
Pets are welcome, of course on a leash, restrooms, water fountains and parking are available.

George T Lewis Airport

Although not a traditional airport, it is kind of neat that you can fly into Cedar Key, FL on a small private aircraft to visit. You can’t buy a ticket from a commercial airline to fly in or out. You can however, hire Marv with CK Island Tours to fly you around most weekends.
